Big Brothers Big Sisters Announces Launch of New High School Mentoring Program, mentor2.0.
Tucson, AZ – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson has announced the launch of mentor2.0, a new program designed to provide local high school students with mentors who help them develop the leadership, career, and social skills needed to graduate high school college-ready.
Mentor2.0, set to begin in the fall of 2016 at Amphi High School, takes the core of Big Brothers Big Sisters programs, including the emphasis on one-to-one mentoring and the role of professional support, and builds upon them through technology-enriched curricula. This model, created by iMentor and used by Big Brothers Big Sisters in mentor2.0 programs throughout the nation, allows for more flexibility in mentor-mentee communication and reduces the in-person time commitment for volunteers to just once per month. Applications of this model in other cities have demonstrated significant increases in on-time high school graduation, college acceptance, enrollment, and persistence rates.
Over 50 responsible and dedicated volunteers will be needed to match with the first cohort of high school freshmen. Big Brothers Big Sisters requires these mentors to live in the area, be over 21 years of age, and possess an associates’ degree or higher. Mentor2.0 volunteers should be able to commit to 3-4 year matches in which they communicate with their mentee via email once per week and attend monthly events. Because of these high standards, relationships established and maintained in this program will have a remarkable impact on the students, changing their lives for the better, forever.
Those interested in learning more about mentor2.0 are encouraged to go to tucsonbigs.org, or call (520) 624-8447.
