Litte moments, Big Magic

We are looking for volunteers who share a passion for making a difference in the life of a child, and the patience to build a lasting friendship.

Bigs and Littles expand each other's horizons by sharing everyday activities: playing sports, seeing movies, cooking, reviewing schoolwork, visiting museums, hiking, or just hanging out together.

BBBS professionals work carefully to match each volunteer with the right Little Brother or Little Sister. We pride ourselves on building relationships that last, and providing our matches with the support they need.

Program Options -- find the perfect program for your schedule and interests!

Big Brother or Big Sister (Community Based): Be a friend and role model to a child at least two times per month for one year. By doing everyday things and having fun a relationship is formed with that child, leading to trust building and productivity in their lives. As a volunteer you choose the age range and activity level of your Little, as well as general geographic location.

Big Couple: A program for couples. This program operates the similarly as the Community Based Program except that you will interact with a child as a couple. Through this interaction the child learns how a healthy relationship occurs.

Juliette Girl Scouts: You DO NOT have to be enrolled in Girl Scouts already in order to participate in this program. These matches will participate in earning Badges, Try-Its,Interest Badges, Cookie Sale Fundraising, and much much more! Check out the Girl Scouts to learn more about the Juliettes. As a Juliette, you can do all the things that a Girl Scout does! Your BIG will help answer any questions that you may have, sign you up for activities, and accompany you to events! Join the FUN now!

Site Based Matches: Volunteers meet with their Little Sister or Little Brother at a designated site one time a week. This program is ideal for High School students, college student or busy adults who want to make a difference, but need a structure time to fit into their schedule. Typically, a Big would meet his her Little during the Little's after school program. The match could participate in structured activities with the group, or seek out something fun to do by themselves. Currently, we have sites at community centers and schools in the midtown area, Flowing Wells School District, and the Sunnyside School District. Contact us for a detailed list of our sites and to find out about our sites that are supervised by a BBBS Staff Member. Elementary schools, community centers or other after school programs interested in partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters should call and speak with the Site Based Coordinator.

STARS: A collaboration with Pima Prevention Partnership , and the KARE Center to provide adult mentors for children with incarcerated family members. Children of prisoners are 7 times more likely to become incarcerated themselves. Help us break this cycle by becoming a mentor and role model. There is additional support available to the match and the family at the KARE Family Center. Check out The KARE Center to see what activities are planned. Meetings are held every month on the 2nd and 4th Friday beginning at 6pm. Dinner is provided and then the support group will meet afterward.

SPORTS BUDDIES: The Sports Buddies program was created for Bigs and Littles to build and maintain friendships through their mutual love of sports. This program provides a unique opportunity for sports fans, both Big and Little, to share their interest for sports in a variety of ways. In the Sports Buddies program each match will have an opportunity to attend and participate in a wide range of sporting events. Diamondback baseball games, rock climbing, flag football, biking and golfing are just some of the discounted or free activities that Sports Buddies will offer you and your match. Activities are schedule each month for a six month period of time.

The Magic of Being Part of BBBS

I think Big Brothers Big Sisters is a wonderful organization. Our students who have a “Big” really look forward to seeing them all week. The students receive help with homework or just send time with a friend. Students also learn responsibility from their “Big”. One of our students meets with her Big Sister every Friday morning. The student has to take responsibility, making sure she wakes up early enough to spend time with her Big Sister before school starts. We also see improvement in the behavior of many of our students who have experienced behavior issues in the past and are now matched with a “Big”.
