Our Mission: To create and support one-to-one adult-to-child mentor relationships guiding youth from a position of risk to one of achieving their highest potential. Our History: Dr. Hugh C. Thompson Jr. founded Big Brothers of Tucson in 1963, matching 23 young men with adult mentors in the community. In the four decades since then, one man’s vision has grown into an agency that has helped change the lives of over 10,000 Tucson boys and girls. In 1981 Big Brothers of Tucson merged with the Big Sisters program, then run by the YWCA, and became Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson.
"There comes a time in every boy’s life when there is no substitute for a man who fills the role of a father." As a renowned pediatrician in the Tucson community for over fifty years, Dr. Thompson knew better than anyone that every child needs a mentor, a positive adult influence in their life. The mission Dr. Thompson began forty-six years ago is carried on in how Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson creates matches today, reaching out to make a difference in every corner of our community.
Together, we're changing how our children grow up in Tucson!
