BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF TUCSON LAUNCHES "100 MEN" CAMPAIGN
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson, in partnership with FOX 11, Citadel Broadcasting and Tucson Newspapers, Inc. has launched the 100 Men in 100 Days campaign to recruit mentors for children in the Greater Tucson area.
Kicking off during National Mentoring Month, the campaign runs for 100 days, from January 23rd through May 2nd, with the goal to register one hundred men as mentors who will make a positive difference in the lives of Tucson’s children. On May 3rd Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson will celebrate the success of the campaign with their Big Celebration at Brandi Fenton Memorial Park.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson currently has 100 children waiting to be matched with mentors and their goal is to match every child in Tucson who wants and needs a mentor with a Big Brother or Big Sister of their own. Adult mentors in the Big Brother Big Sister program serve as positive role models for youth and have a significant impact in changing negative behaviors such as truancy, violence and drug and alcohol use. The stability and consistency of these relationships enhance the youth’s self-esteem and life skills assisting them in achieving their highest potential.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Tucson matches children with adult mentors in the Tucson community. In 2008, the organization matched 886 Tucson children with a Big Brother or Big Sister. The agency’s mission is to develop one-to-one adult-to-child mentor relationships guiding youth from a position of risk to one of achieving their highest potential.
